A monumental optical piece that snakes — hence “víbora”, viper — along both slopes of a concrete channel split by a thread of water. Black and white at ground level, but with the edges already splitting into red, orange and blue: the RGB chromatic aberration that would become his signature is here, more than a decade before the Sphere. One of his earliest large-format optical works.
The story
The Name, Already Doubled in RGB
Proyecto Víbora runs like a snake along both sides of a concrete channel split by a thread of water. It is black-and-white op art at monumental scale, painted at ground level, but look at the edges: each black stripe splits into a fine aberration of red, orange and blue — the same RGB registration error that years later would fill a spherical facade in Las Vegas. Here, though, everything is analog and freehand, with constellations of colored dots speckling the black areas. The “FELIPE PANTONE 08” signature dates it as one of his earliest large-format optical pieces. (Exact site and date pending confirmation with the artist.)
