Painted in the depths of the Korean winter, at minus 14 degrees — a cold in which spray cans stop working: it took a heater inside the lift to warm the cans, heat patches under the clothes, and an improvised box on the platform to cut the wind.

The Korean cold and the stupid trips
This was one of the coldest places I've ever painted. We were at minus 14 degrees, and in that kind of cold the spray cans simply don't work — the paint won't come out. So we had to improvise everything: they put a heater inside the lift to keep warming up the cans, they'd stick warming pads — those heat patches — under my clothes, and we even built a kind of box on the platform so the wind wouldn't cut right through me while I painted. A seriously heavy mission, but it worked out. This is what I call my "stupid trips": they'd invite me somewhere and I'd go without thinking twice, because all I wanted was to paint like crazy. I didn't stop to consider that it was the dead of winter in Korea and that maybe it wasn't the best time to be painting in the street. But hey, things come out of that kind of madness — and from this one there's a night photo that's pretty cool.
