DistritoTec public art program, produced by Arto Studio, November 2017: 455 m² on the Residencias III towers on the Tecnológico de Monterrey campus. It was painted from the largest crane he had operated up to that point: some 60 meters.
The story
The catapult and the drone
The crane on this mural was the biggest and tallest I had ever worked with, about 60 meters — an incredible machine. I love machines and I've always mastered them fast, in a very dynamic way. But it was resting on grass, and at one point a patch of ground gave way and the basket up top jolted all of a sudden, like a catapult. My friend and assistant and I nearly got launched; we let out an extremely high-pitched scream. The drone thing came later. The photos you see of the mural I took myself with a drone. I was flying it backwards to get a beautiful shot and I told my assistant, “careful, there's a very tall building behind us”... and just as I said it, the drone smashed into the building. I recovered the photos — and the pieces too.
