Confusion, Clarity, and the Joy of Missing Out

Sometimes art has to be confusing — like my Optichromies, overwhelming, hard to digest, a dynamic ray that hits you and knocks you off balance…

Other times it’s clarifying — like a punch of truth that rearranges your brain.

But here’s the thing: art isn’t always short, rewarding, and ephemerallike a good TikTok scroll. Good art lasts. Because life also lasts, and hard things happen. Art is sometimes tough, and sometimes rewarding.

It demands. It resists. You gotta train yourself to consume it. To wrestle with it. Like trying to read a long email when you’re used to push notifications. Imagine a whole book — that’s an extreme sport in 2025!

The other day my friend Marcelo Burlón dropped a gem: JOMO. Joy Of Missing Out. Not FOMO. Not running behind what everyone else is doing. But the actual pleasure of not giving a fuck. Of skipping the noise. Of enjoying the silence. Of sitting with yourself and knowing yourself.

Right now I’m in Reno, Nevada. We tried to roll into Burning Man but the gate got shut down—sandstorms, rain, wind, all of it. Adversity is fuel. Comfort kills ideas. Chaos makes them. I’ve been, thinking, painting on the way. Proof that storms hit harder, but they also hit better.

Catch you on the flip side, —FP
